Ethiopians started to arrive in BC as early as the 1940s, mostly students. The 1970s and 80s, several Ethiopians were residing in Metro Vancouver. In 1985, Ethiopians in BC gathered and held a fundraiser to help ease the famine that was ravishing their homeland. The Ethiopian Community Association of BC was born soon after.
